‘‘Lunar maiden and furby collector’’
Her art means escapism, survival, decorations, adornments, a form of nesting, safety and living for beauty.
At five, KIKI KARA started her art journey with drawing and writing. By the time she was 18, she had already started knitting followed by crocheting in 2019 and hand poke in 2022.
‘‘I think censoring usually reflects the larger societal structures that oppress us - e.g censoring content related to homosexuality enforces compulsory heterosexuality + homophobia. It’s an effort to restrict access to information + representation. It’s a tool that reprensents a larger - more insidious agenda.‘‘
‘‘I associate vulgarity with the humour of teenage boys ( sexual humor, crudeness, etc.) I think there’s also something freeing in that giving yourself permission to go past everyday ‘‘presentability’’ + ‘‘properness’’ and allowing yourself to explore a space that might not always be accessible. I also think of vulgarity as the things I wouldn’t want my parents and grandparents to see!’’
